Amy Fisher

This is the artist’s debut exhibition featuring paintings in archival quality soft pastel, acrylic, watercolour and ink. Each piece is inspired by a single pride flag and uses that flag as the dominant colour palette, while the images symbolise the qualities, aspirations and history of the community its colours represent. The strong theme of nature scenes, often directly taken from the artist’s observations of the real world, arose in counterpoint to the accusations of our communities being “unnatural”, and the surreal aspects from the idea that while we are often strange, the strangeness is beautiful to more than just ourselves. The collection itself aims to be a symbol of acceptance and commonality as the individual works, bars of protest colours reimagined for a time when the protests are no longer needed, are taken beyond the subcommunities to be appreciated in the wider world.
